It was a graet night for a baseball game - the game was called due to darkness at the top of the 5th. Both teams played hard. The first inning was very exciting with 5 runs scored by True North and 4 by Bradley. The highlight for the hitters of Bradley were; Shea with 2 doubles, J Bonn with 3 hits and Perry McCarthy with 2 hits. For True North, Charlie Cosgrove had 2 doubles and Justin Tedeschi had an awesome inning ending catch to close a Bradley rally. Once again The Snug Mariner's arms showed up in front of an overflow crowd at Hersey field Saturday afternoon. The M's ace Greg 'big W' Williamson and young guns Billy 'the kid' McNally and Harry 'wheelhouse' Wheeler combined on a one hit, 12 strikeout shutout performance to win over a very gutsy True North team. Not to be out done the True North pitchers John Fisher and Austin Irvin K'd 11 Half-Pints. The Snug's Jackie "Robinson' Santilli continued his hit parade with two more extra base hits including a 1st inning double , and scoring on a basehit by Brendan ' big red' Morris. Pitching duels need strong defense and both Snug and True North brought their gloves to this one. First baseman Steven ' fastball' Kirk and centerfielder Greg Williamson both made great catches of hard hit line drives. True North's Parker Doyle also made a great play at 1st. True North's Michael Calvi broke up the Snug's no-hitter in the bottom of the 6th with a one out solid hit to center. The Snug's Harry Wheeler then struck out the next two batters to send the crowd home. Best of all, everyone had fun! Luckily Bobby Beane and Carson Terres were able to keep the scoring down until Brendan Smith came in to absolutely shut the door. The game was much tighter than the score indicates. Tied through the 4th 3-3 with TN hits by Will Roe, Brendan Tedeschi, M. Calvi, and A. Irvin. Allied came out swinging with a homer from Powell, a 3 run triple from Matt Stanwood, doubles from Billy Harrington, Stephen Townsend, Mitch Anderson and Greg Patrolia, and solid singles from Jake Van Dine and Sam Sullivan. The pitching was strong with TN's John Fisher(75), Justin Tedeschi(20) Brendan Tedeschi(40), Austin Irvin(20), and Jonah Berkin(33) and Allied's Finn Powell(47), Sam Sullivan(55), and Stephen Townsend(59). Mark Tedeschi and his coaches did a nice job allowing all the kids to play every position and allowed a lot of pitchers a try on the mound. Great game. |

True North posted its first win with some timely hitting but not before surviving a strong comeback attempt by a very gritty Dunkin Donuts team. True North jumped out to a quick 7-1 first inning lead but Dunkin Donuts clawed its way back back into this one. Game highlights included a great defensive catch deep in the outfield by Michael Calvi for TN on the first play of the game and some strong hitting by Charlie Cosgrove and and Patrick Schofield while Lipsett and Kenny helped lead the charge for Dunkin Donuts with an impressive hitting performance. 33 runs + 10 pitchers + 2 days + one exciting game. Two great teams locked up a classic battle in a game originally suspended due to darkness. When the dust cleared, the Dirt Dogs of Old Derby were victorious, defeating True North 17-16 before a capacity crowd at Kress Field. Parker Doyle and Patrick Schofield turned in the defensive plays of the game for True North, teaming up to nail not one, not two, but three Old Derby runners at the plate. Doyle, along with 5 other True North pitchers, did a terrific job keeping the Old Derby batters off balance. A special shout out has to go to True North's Michael Calvi and Andrew Jamison who made their pitching debuts. For the Dirt Dogs Sam "Don't Even Try To Walk Me" Jenkins led the way with three hits. Scott Sullivan scored two big runs for Old Derby while Pat Kane came across the plate three times in the win. Stephen Cochrane got the win for the Dogs while David Bowen picked up the save, coming up huge with a game ending strikeout with the tying run on 3d.
