Pitching, pitching, pitching! Both the Timothy Cruz Diamonds and the Snug Mariners showed the capacity crowd at Kress field what this great game is all about! Great pitching, solid fielding and clutch hitting made this one of the best games of the season. Snug's young guns Billy'the kid' McNally(9), Harry 'wheelhouse' Wheeler (8) and Will 'the thrill' D'Entremont (8)combined for 19 strikeouts in this 9 inning game. Not to be out done the Cruz Diamonds pitching staff of Droster, Maguire, Barret and Carr K'd 15 Snug 'Half pints'. Stand out plays in the field for the Snug included a great stab at shortstop by Greg'big w' Williamson, a diving stop of a hard hit grounder and accurate throw by Infielder Jackie 'robinson' Santilli, and a great running catch by Adam'in the zone' Zona in left field. The game went into the top of the 9th when the Cruz Diamonds, Jr. Jack Diamond got a solid one out hit and was followed by Grif Moriarty who patiently worked a full count for a walk. A double by O'Connor and a single by Carr Led to 3 runs. In the bottom of the 9th the 'never say die' Snug Half Pints Billy McNally and Will D'entremont walked and Jack Santilli picked up a rbi single scoring McNally. With 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th Brendan Morris's clutch triple scored D"etremont and Santilli. Morris was thrown out at the plate for aggressively trying to stretch his triple into a 4 bagger. The Cruz gang got a ton of offense and big hits from the soutern end of their batting order. Joe Higgins, Jack Diamond, Liam Flynn, Andrew Driscoll, Chris Tascione Thomas Rockett Matt O'Connor and Griff Moriarity all contributed with some huge hits. For the Vets, the big bats in this game included, Will PelletierSam Jenkins, Owen Pelletier, Owen Kane and David Bowen. Billy arkins got the win for the Cruz gang by shutting down the Vets with runners on base. The opening round of the play-offs featured a classic battle between two teams that battled to a 5-5 tie extra inning game in the regular season. This game lived up to all the hype because both teams came to play and left it all on the field. The Cruz Diamonds scored 1st in their half of inning # 1 off of a base hit by Carr and a triple by Barret. The Snug's ace Greg "Big W' Williamson was not fazed and struck out an incredible 11 out of 15 batters to face him. Cruz Diamonds ace Carr was not to be out done as he kept The Snug Half Pints scoreless for 4 innings helped by brilliant fielding, Jack Diamonds play at 2nd base in the 1st spoiled a potential Snug Rally. The Snug bats came alive in the 4th which started with a double from Jackie 'Robinson ' Santilli that short hopped the left field fence. Doubles from Brendan "Big Red' Morris and Conner'Boomer' McDermott helped the Snug post 4 and they never looked back. Jack Santilli closed things out for Snug by striking out 6 in the lastt 2 innings. A lead off hit by the Cruz Diamonds catcher Grif Moriarty in the bottom of the 6th kept fans in their seats but Santilli K'd the final 3 helping the Snug advance to the next round.
