| The Snug 4 vs. Hingham Jewelers 3 | Minor League | Hingham - Kress Field | Sun, May 06, 3:00 PM |
Another well played , well pitched game between The Snug Mariners and The Hingham Jewelers on a crisp beautiful spring Sunday afternoon at Kress Field ended in a Snug victory with a 2 out walk-off homerun by Jackie Robinson Santilli. The Snug's dynamic duo of Greg 'big W' Williamson and Brendan 'big Red' Morris combined for 17 strikeouts. Hingham Jeweler pitchers the 'B' boys, Burke, Bennis and Beane were also impressive with 11 strikeouts, especially considering Beane and Bennis came off of no days rest having had 20 pitches the day before. The Snug's ace Greg Williamson settled down quickly , from the 1st inning to the 4th inning struck out 9 out of 10 batters including 8 in a row. Closer Brendan 'big red' Morris was stellar striking out 8 of the 11 Jewelers he faced. The Hingham Jewelers hitting came from the 'B' boys Beane and Burke , Beane scoring twice and ripping a 2 out double in the 4th which was immediately followed by Burkes 2nd double of the game. The patient Snug batters got big hits from Brendan Morris who had reached base his 1st nine plate appearences and 10 out 11 overall (5 extra base hits and 2 singles during this period for 'Big Red') The game had many stand out defensive plays from both sides but perhaps the key play was when Snug centerfielder rookie Mark' Mac' McNiskin tracked a sinking line drive in the 4th almost making a spectacular catch but just as importantly stopping the ball and making a quick throw to the infield saving what could have easily been a Homerun. pitch count Snug: Williamson 75, Morris 73 Hingham Jewelers Burke 73, Bennis 47 Beane 10 |

The opening round of the play-offs featured a classic battle between two teams that battled to a 5-5 tie extra inning game in the regular season. In any classic sports match between two fine teams at any level there must be a winner. Many say that is why we compete and most of the time they are right. Tonight at Hersey field a little league game between Team Coca-cola and The Snug Half-pints was "brilliant" not because one team advanced to the next round of the playoffs and the other team's season ended. It was the many stories with in the game that made this a classic. Great pitching, solid hitting and strong defense have been a trademark for both teams all season long and it was on display once again. When you boil this sea-saw battle down you are left with a few gems. The story of the two D'Entremont cousins and best pals playing on opposite sides rises to the top. Both Will 'the thrill' from Team Snug and Jared fom Coke played major roles in the game. Catcher Jared D'Et of Coca-Cola went 1 for 3 and scored a run but it was his play at home plate taking a great throw from John Donahue and tagging out a sliding 'Half-Pint' that kept his team in the game. Cousin Will of team Snug ( whose left-handed swing would make Ted Williams proud) hit a two strike pitch with two outs in the bottom of the 6th to left center field for a double scoring Brendan Morris ,tying the game and sending it into extra innings. With one out in the bottom of the 7th inning, The Snug's Co Co Cooper Nisbet confidently fouled off pitch after pitch, and with the count 1 ball and 2 strikes beat out a solid infield single. Cooper , who has been battiling vision problems this year made use of his new glasses and found a great time for his first hit! Mark 'big mac' Mcniskin then walked and the Snug's Greg' Big W' Williamson came through in the clutch with a solid double to center scoring a speedy Coop and giving the Snug team the win. Team Coca-Cola left it all on the field. There season might be defined best by how this well coached team played as a solid unit. Well done. pitch count Snug Williamson 52, Wheeler 32, Santilli 38, Coke- Goode 57, Donahue 60, Brazel 40, Baker 6 |
