Foley & Foley win the 2009 Minor League Championship
Congratulations to the players and coaches of Foley & Foley as they won the 2009 Minor League Championship 3-2 on July 3'rd. In an exciting series including the final game against Sagamore Plumbing, Foley & Foley went undefeated (6-0) in the double elimination format playoffs to secure the title. The playoff games proved to be exciting and challenging as the teams battled each other and mother nature in a rain filled two week period which required endless game changes and pitching rotations. Thanks to all the players, coaches and parents who participated in a great demonstration of talent and sportsmanship. Thanks to the board members and volunteers who kept the schedule moving and the fields in playable condition throughout the playoffs
In the championship game, Foley & Foley pitching was provided by Graham Peterson and David Driscoll who gave up 5 hits all game. Sagamore Plumbing & Heating used pitchers Phil Holler, Ryan Kenney and Aidan Leonard who held Foley & Foley to 3 hits in the 3-2 win in seven innings.
Foley & Foley, up at the bottom of the sixth extended the game when Mike Francis scored a run to tie the game 2-2 with two outs. With bases loaded Graham Peterson hit a line shot to second base which was caught by Devin Irvin to end the scoring and send the game into extra innings. In the top of the 7'th Sagamore was unable to score. In the bottom of the 7'th, Foley's David Driscoll reached first, Pat Kane got on with a fielder's choice and Owen Dewire after battling off a number of pitches hit a line shot to right center field driving in the winning run for Foley & Foley.
